Ryan Marx

SENIOR . Designer

I started where all good designers start…in boat building. Luckily, I blew up like a balloon from a severe fibreglass reaction soon after and bailed. After graduating in graphic design, I worked as a designer at a nifty sticker-printing place. It was time well spent too, making skateboard stickers and tees for mates.

The years since have been spent in more earnest toil on all sorts of design projects from Bell Tea to Huffer. There were the six years contracting round town, followed by fulltime gigs at Dashwood, Coats Design, Inspiration Point, then a little time out on my own.

If you pushed me on my expertise I'd have to say typography. And branding. And publication. And packaging. At least that's what I told NZ Dairy Foods before they gave a mate and I the Primo account. (It was fantastic, just the two of us in a small Kingsland studio doing all the branding, packaging, interactive games, the lot!)

When dealing with me, you should be aware of my sharp negotiating skills. Odd fact: I swapped my first car – a 1980 Toyota Starlet – for 2 cows. This was considered a great deal at the time. Don't ask me what I did with the cows. Anyway, enough yap. Have a look at my work and see what you think.
