Phil Rimmer
SENIOR . Storyboarder
I'm originally from the UK, born in the old Roman city of Chester. I had a love hate relationship with school; loved Art lessons and football, hated the rest. So when it came to leave, Art College seemed the right choice, as sadly I wasn't another Georgie Best in the making.
I did three years at Art College and loved it, then got my first job as a visualiser in an ad agency in Liverpool - just around the corner from the famous Cavern Club. A few years after, I was headhunted by Manchester agency BDH - just a short stroll from Manchester United’s stadium 'the theatre of dreams'.
It was in fact a dream move to BDH as they were regarded as a creative 'hot shop' and produced more TV than any other agency outside of the top London agencies. I progressed rapidly to become a Senior Art Director and Group Head at BDH/TBWA, as they later became. I worked on a great variety of accounts ranging from toys and games, cars to carpets and wallpaper paste to dog food, produced work I was proud of, and won a few awards on the way.
Having a strong drawing ability meant I was able to knock up a visual or storyboard from our ideas to present to clients, I was always happy to do this as it was something I enjoyed, when an idea went through I always enjoyed working with the director and giving input on the storyboard.
Through the years I've been lucky enough to work with some very talented writers, art directors, photographers, directors and model makers. A particular highlight was producing a number of commercials with Oscar winning Aardman Animations in Bristol. Now I'm looking forward to joining The Pond as a Storyboard Artist, and focusing on that great passion of mine, drawing.
