Lisa Baudry

Since graduating from AUT in the early ‘90s, my career has taken me in lots of interesting directions. I’ve worked at some of Auckland’s top ad agencies, design companies and publishing houses. I’ve collaborated with national and international artists as an in-house designer for a public art gallery and been a freelance designer at Dow Design, Designworks Enterprise IG, Colenso 99, Random House and PQ Blackwell. And I’ve even thrown myself into art publishing, something that continues to interest me today.

Art remains my passion, my first love. I carry it in my heart always, and it influences everything I do. But I also believe that art, design and advertising intersect. If you look at the artist temperament and basic motivation – to be original and to create – it is the same across these fields.

I’ve always tried to be socially responsible with my work. Having been an advocate of sustainability even before it became ‘trendy’ to do so, I try to keep an ethical focus to what I do – my recent work with a Fair Trade client has given me an even greater understanding of this.

When it comes to my personal style, perhaps I work more like an artisan – crafting work in the spirit of any artist from any time. Print or web, illustrator or designer, I can be what you need me to be. My only stipulation is that the creative process happens in an atmosphere where there’s open and honest communication, and mutual trust between the client and the creative. The best results are always achieved this way.
