Sue Worthington
CONSULTANT / CD . Copywriter
February 8th, 2009.
Well I’ve put a line in the sand. I’ve committed to updating my profile more regularly. (Failing this, I’ll simply refresh the above date more regularly.)
As my first name begins with 'S', chances are you haven’t arrived at my page to see my work, since members with the names A-R have far more impressive folio hits than mine. (Nevertheless, as a Pond partner, everything about this website and The Pond itself is probably my best case study and the culmination of over 26 years in this industry.)
What you may be interested in is my background. Having graduated with a BA and worked as a copywriter for Ogilvy, JWT, McCann and Lintas, as well as A&L Mojo in the U.S, you’d think I could string a few words together. And that I can - but I’m still pretty poor at grammar, which is why I am immensely grateful to the ‘bastardisation of English’ in recent years.
My knowledge of writing helps me appreciate and select the best conceptual people, copywriters and specialist writers for The Pond, alongside my business partner, Leighton, who vets design and art direction.
Likewise, my time as a Creative Director at CWFS and as a contractor gave me insights into the stress and angst that creatives and Clients face, which in turn helps both Leighton and I create services to smooth out the bumps. And finally, being a business owner of The Pond grounds you in the fundamentals of what advertising is really about. (However creatively you do it, the end result has to be selling more widgets otherwise you’re out of business.)
In wrapping this up for today, there’s this rather clichéd pompous saying about “always getting people on board that are better than you.” The people I work with – members, staff and clients - are, I’d like to think, the same as myself. Honest, energetic, people-orientated go-getters who enjoy what they do between 8 and 6. And enjoy a creative life beyond this too.
So go on. Find Creative Independence.
